Who is Pat?

"My mom asked me what I wanted for my 11th birthday, and I said I wanted a drum set. She got me a guitar. The rest is history." - Pat Rector

Pat’s musical education began at the age of 4 with classical piano lessons, where he quickly grasped difficult music theory concepts, participated in national piano competitions, and realized he had the gift of perfect pitch (which has served him well throughout his musical career). It wasn't until he picked up a guitar for the first time, however, that he realized he wanted to make music his career.

Pat established himself as a diligent and adept student of music in high school. He joined the Overlake School Jazz Band as their guitarist as a freshman (winning three consecutive Outstanding Soloist awards at the Northshore Jazz Festival & winning the Clark College Jazz Festival 1A Division twice), the Chamber Choir by audition in his junior year (named tenor section leader by his peers & winning Gold at the 23rd International Choral Festival in Italy in 2012).

After being admitted to the University of Southern California’s exclusive Popular Music Performance program in 2013, Pat developed a reputation as a reliable, talented, and versatile guitarist amongst the professors and his peers. Working closely with professors such as Richard Smith, Nick Stoubis, Pat Kelly, and Paul Jackson, Jr., Pat began to further develop his skills as a guitarist and musician.

Upon graduation, Pat dove into the music scene of Los Angeles head-first. He worked as an educator at Musicians Institute in Hollywood/Guitar Center in Sherman Oaks, toured with various acts (Fiona Grey, Heather Cole, etc.), and joined the Indie Alternative Rock band MADUS (which he still performs with today). In 2019, he performed with the band RAINNE at 97.1 AMP Radio's "We Can Survive" concert, opening for acts like The Jonas Brothers, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and other in-demand acts.

While Pat brings professionalism, skill, and dependability to a project, he also prides himself on being easy-going and fun to work with. As he entered the profession of music with joy and inspiration, he strives to bring that same feeling to any session he is a part of. Pat consistently works as a session/performing musician in the greater L.A./Orange County areas with acts such as JT Harker, Justin Klunk, Daniel Bonte, Kayln & the New Frontier, and Juliana Tucker to name just a few. He continues to teach privately both in person and online.
